Zyanya grew up in a supposedly loving environment. Her father, a Zapotic Native American, and her mother, South Korean born, but American Raised, fell in love while studying together in college, got married and had a healthy baby girl within their first year of marriage. As time went on, though, the two fell out of love. They began to fight more and more often, and when that happened, Zyanya knew she was to stay away. By the time she was 8 years old, her mother and father got through all the paperwork and finally filed a divorce. Her mother got custody and her father got visitation every other week. This went on until current times. Zyanya didn’t mind the divorce situation, being that she hated seeing her parents fight more than she hated seeing them apart.
Zyanya went to school normally and just minded her own business and just was like everyone else.
When she was 10 years old, while on visitation with her father, her father had work to do, thus she was to go as well. She waited outside the office while her father was busy where she met a girl, possibly her age possibly older. She didn’t think much of it then and she didn’t really make an attempt to befriend the girl, but the girl persisted. She coaxed Zyanya with kind words and ideas. The thing that struck Zyanya most, though, was the thought of a family. Zyanya wanted to know more about this possible family and looked towards the girl with wide eyes.
The other girl took Zyanya to the abandoned church, a place where children like her flourished. She was at the home of the Phoenix spirits. Though Zyanya really did wish to join their ranks, she decided she would think on it. She ventured back to her father’s office, where she discovered she was gone for a lot longer than she should’ve. She was scolded by her father and when she got home she witnessed the first fight between her parents in a couple years. She was then scolded by her mother again. That was when Zyanya decided she would join the ranks of the Phoenix.
She returned the next day and was awarded her token, a small wooden pig that fit snugly in the palm of her hand. She watched as a spirit was released from her token, a boy who looked much like her except more red and melty. She named him Jin Jun, after a stuffed animal she cherished as a child.
Zyanya enjoyed being in a place where she could finally have a family and after a few years of working hard, she became an adviser. She enjoyed the attention that came with it, but still worried about how the other children would react. She decided she would try her best to be a strong member and rolemodel of her clan. My characters Cynthia and my friend’s is Patrick, I just thought it’d make more sense if I put in both parts ahah..
Really, why she allowed herself to be sucked into one of Orion’s games again was above her knowledge. Cynthia knew it was going to be one long night. It was only 9 o’clock but her feet were already killing her, she knew she should’ve gotten the insoles for her shoes, but really what made her decide that wearing high heels for night hike was a good idea. She looked over to Patrick, who was accompanying her for this little game, and sighed. Out of everyone she was stuck with him
. At least she could clearly see him, his bright red hair contrasting the dark surroundings. It was difficult to see but Cynthia could manage. The not too crisp, but still chilly, fall breeze blew past them, Cynthia shivered in response. “This is stupid, I’m going back to the dormitories. There’s no way I
am going to stand in the dark all night because of this stupid game and if you-“
“Shut up a little,” Patrick hushed her. He peered around for a second. Through all of Cynthia’s noise he thought he heard something.
“Excuse you, do you know who you’re talking to. Patrick Kelly if you think you’re going to-“
“I said shut up! I thought I heard something,” he snapped back listening again, hearing nothing he brushed off the eerie feeling and went back to walking.
“It’s probably just Orion or someone trying to scare us…” Cynthia concluded.
“If it was Orion he would’ve come out by now…” Patrick muttered, stopping again, “Did you hear that?”
Cynthia did hear it this time. She nodded slowly, taking off a shoe to defend herself, “Whatever we do… we gotta stick together…”
